In 2024, ARMA will be running a new tournament format, Rapid-Fire Tournaments! These tournaments will be held on Tenhou and consists of 10 monthly tournaments between January-October to qualify for a final in November.
Format
In each monthly tournament, players will first play a 3 hanchan preliminary stage. The top 4 players from this stage will qualify to a playoff and play a single hanchan.
Placing 1st/2nd/3rd/4th in a playoff will earn you 5/3/2/1 points. The player who placed 1st in the preliminary stage will also earn 1 additional point. The top 4 players with the most points at the end of October will qualify for a 3 hanchan final in November.
Ruleset
The rules will be WRC 2022 rules modified with red fives and 30/10 uma. WRC 2022 rules can be found here. Tournament rules can be found below.
Prize
The winner of the final in November will have their entry fee to ARMO2024 waived or receive an equivalent amount as a gift voucher.

Tournament rules
Part 1: Monthly tournaments
1. Tournament Structure
Monthly tournaments will run between January-October. In the first stage of these tournaments, participants will play a 3 hanchan qualifier. The top 4 players will qualify to the finals and play a single hanchan.
Placing 1st/2nd/3rd/4th in the finals will earn you 5/3/2/1 points. The player who placed 1st in the qualifying stage will also gain 1 additional point.
The top 4 players with the highest points at the end of October will qualify for a 3 hanchan finals in November.
The winner of the finals in November will have their entry fee to ARMO2024 waived or receive an equivalent amount as a gift voucher.
2. Placement and Tiebreakers
At the end of the qualifying stages, the top four players will advance to the finals. The placement at the end of each stage will be based on the following tiebreakers (priority: a>b>c>d>e>f>g):
- Players with higher score will have higher positions;
- With two players of equal total scores, compare the scores in mutual matches, player with higher mutual match score will have higher position;
- With two players of equal mutual match scores, compare mutual first place counts, player with higher mutual match first place count will have higher position;
- With two players of equal mutual first place counts, compare mutual last place counts in all matches, player with lower mutual match last place count will have higher position;
- With two players of equal mutual last place counts, compare the total first place counts in all matches, player with higher total first place count will have higher position;
- With two players of equal total match first place counts, compare total last place counts in all matches, player with lower total last place count will have higher position;
- With two players of equal total match last place counts, compare the highest match score obtained in all matches, player with higher score will have higher position;
- With two players equal in all above conditions, place them according to the seat wind in the last mutual hanchan between them.
3. Score calculation
- Starting points and score calculation: every player will have 30000 starting points every hanchan, and the score will be calculated by the final points minus 30000 divided by 1000. Returning points is 30000 (so no going into west).
- Final score calculations: uma for these tournaments is 1st place +30; 2nd place +10; 3rd place -10; 4th place -30. Calculate the score for each hanchan according to the following rules:
Hanchan score = (hanchan final points-30000)/1000 + uma, with one decimal place - Total score: The total score is the cumulative score of every individual hanchan score.
- Score inheritance: scores of the players that qualify for the playoff will not carry over from the preliminary stage.
Part 2: Competition rules
- Basic rules
- Platform: Tenhou
- Default rules: Any rule not mentioned in ‘Special rules’ is identical with the rule in Tenhou’s ladder;
- Special rules: 30000 point start, 5+20 discard timer, 3 aka, open tanyao allowed, no bankruptcy, riichi cost 1000 points, renchan bonus 300 points, no nagashi mangan, kiriage mangan (3 han 60 fu and 4 han 30 fu round up to mangan), kan dora, ura dora, kan ura dora, kan dora revealed immediately on kan, no abortive draws, ippatsu, atamehane/headbump, agariyame/tenpaiyame nashi (last dealer must end like any other dealership), no sudden death/no west round, multiple yakuman, pair of double seat/round wind is only 2 fu, end of game riichi sticks are lost, 13+ han is sanbaiman.
- Match details
- Late show: Players should be in the tournament lobby when games are proposed to start. If a player is not present 5 minutes after the proposed time that the game will start, a substitute player will play instead and the player will be penalised 50 points to their overall score. The game and results will be calculated as normal with no modifications to the other players’ scores. Repeated absence from a player may result in disqualification and a ban from participating in future tournaments. This ban will be discretionary and mitigating circumstances may be taken into consideration.
- Break-time: Games are set to start five minutes after the last block of hanchans finish.
- Disconnection and pause: Players are responsible for ensuring the stability of their network to avoid disconnections; players are responsible for reconnecting to the match as soon as possible. If a disconnection occurs, there is no pause or pause request during the match. However, there will be announcements if a wide-range of disconnection occurs, including but not limited to rematch, delay, etc.
Part 3: Foul play rules
- Defined fouls include:
- Cheating with other players by improper discard
- Software cheat
- Unfair play to target others
If a player believes another player has committed foul play, please raise the issue with the organisers who will then decide and assign penalties accordingly.
- Penalty
- Players who are judged as committing foul play, after being clearly evidenced, will be disqualified.
