About Us

The Australian Riichi Mahjong Association (ARMA) was founded in 2014 by two guys in Sydney with an aspiration to one day see an organised process to select players to represent Australia at the World Riichi Championship (WRC) – the definitive international event featuring players from around the world, including top pros from Japan, the home of riichi mahjong.

From these humble beginnings, ARMA has since grown by leaps and bounds, as players across the country have united together in a grassroots initiative to develop the community, promote the sport, and represent Australia on the world stage. Today, ARMA is the proud partner of choice for the sport’s international bodies, including the WRC organising committee.

Our Vision

  1. To promote the sport of riichi mahjong in Australia
  2. To facilitate networking between players and clubs across Australia
  3. To provide training, education, and resources for the development and expansion of the national community
  4. To promote Australia’s interests and points of view in the global community
  5. To oversee the selection of players to represent Australia in international events

ARMA does not condone gambling, and is dedicated to the kenkou maajan movement of healthy, wholesome mahjong.
